About the comic

Confused about the characters, situations or whether the jokes are funny? You should head over to the New Readers section.

About the author

I guess this is where it’s appropriate to switch to talking about myself in the third person.

Armando Valenzuela hails originally from Mexico, but currently lives in the U.S. Pacific Northwest (Seattle, to be exact), where his day job is in the IT department for a software company.  Although he has been drawing, doodling and otherwise defacing notebooks/scrap paper/walls/cats pretty much all his life, Atomic Laundromat is his first actual published work.  Armando has an unnatural love both for Die Hard and the Little Mermaid, and favors comic/comic strips such as Calvin & Hobbes, Liberty Meadows, Bone, Y the Last Man and Invincible.

About the art

I’ve tried using the Wacom tablet to draw like a lot of the cool webcomics kids out there.  I have really tried.  However, it all comes out like a squiggly mess out of MS Paint.  So that’s why I kind of stick to the basics and do everything in a bit more analog fashion.  I draw my originals on Canson 17×4.5″ Comic Strip boards — saves me time on the boring task of having to do the lines for the strip.  I use a Pentel GraphGear 1000 mechanical pencil with 0.7 non-repro blue leads to sketch in the layout, and I ink everything with Pigma Micron pens (02, 05 & 08).  I scan and process the lettering on a perfectly legal copy of Photoshop CS4. If there is any interest in it, I might post a “making of” feature of a regular comic strip.

The comic uses premium and free fonts from Blambot.com.

This section of the About page was either really exciting for art supply geeks or extremely boring for everybody else.

About the site

The site runs on a heavily modified version of the ComicPress 3-column template, and the backend is powered by WordPress. The design for the comic navigation bar was inspired by Scott Kurtz’s PvPOnline. Atomic Laundromat is hosted by MediaTemple..
