Amazing that no one has noticed the position of Bob’s fingers when the “naked ladies” come on. One finger up, all others down, and which one is the one that’s up?
I am pretty sure it is like Hiye’s Gigan Eye from Yu-Yu-Hakusho. It grants special powers namely the power of foresight; it can move about in conjunction with the mental and emotional statusof the host as well as seemingly seperate from her as if it seems to have a seperate mind of it’s own that is directly linked to and controlled by the host in a partnership like manner, and it never closes. It would go without saying then that it would naturally come with a transparent nictitating membrane so as to keep it from being harmed and as it is an integral part of her body to keep her from being harmed as well.
In legend and myth the Gigan Eye was said to be a demonic or angelic spirit (depending on cultural interpretation) that a person was born with or accepted as part of a ritualistic contract. The purpose of the third eye was to give the host a greater range of situational awareness and thus allow the host to be able to escape mortal danger even before it occured. The eye also allowed the Spirit to have a direct link to the soul and mind of the host thus allowing for direct communication as well as giving the hitch hiking minion the opportunity to experience the world through the eyes of whatever creature it had attached itself to.
Dependent upon the contract that was struck the eye (and by proxy the Spirit within) would be controllable by the host only as much as was dictated in the contract. Thus the eye does indeed have a mind of it’s own; and in this case it would seem that this particular Gigan Demon is in fact…
Male… (hehehe)… Now you have to wonder what kind of dirty conversation is going on inside her head between her spirit and the Gigan Demon in her mind.
Also the eye can be closed but only in certain circumstances. The eye is most likely to stay open forever because she never thought to put such a stipulation of control into the contract. In other words…
Deal with it girly. By the way great artwork. I really like this comic.
Interesting… I haven’t watched YYH in a minute though, so my memory’s a bit hazy. As for this Gigan Eye myth of which you speak, I’ve tried googling it for more info, and I got nothin. Got any links or anything? Preferably unrelated to YYH, since I’d rather avoid spoilers, if at all possible.
Of course, it could also be a Gilligan Eye from Jinjah Marianshu: Zakennayo!, in which case it reveals the future only when it’s either funny, ironic, or will totally screw up the important plans of the seer or the seer’s friends. It also has the limitation that it cannot see piles of coconuts just outside the seer’s door on a dark night, and the seer will always be fooled by a cheap gorilla costume.
Is the third eye trying to look Away from or At the TV?It looks to me like it is looking at the tv which makes me think that it might have a mind of it’s own,a completely separate personality from Juno.Like maybe it is a separate being that she has no control of and it just happens to reside in Junos head.(if that was the case we should probably be typing it as Third Eye since it would be a name.)
And it communicates telepathically, possibly not only with Juno but others of its own race if there are any. That might even be were it derives its foresight ability,by reading the minds of those around it and communicating with others, it can figure out the far-future.And her current inability to see into the far-future now may be caused by a breakdown in communication with the others.
Or maybe it acts out of her subconscious mind and she secretly wants to look at the TV.
But even if it simply can “see” into the future through some strange cosmic power, i have it in my head now that it should have a mind of its own.
Dunno about it having a mind of its own… In comics 110 & 113 the eye’s mood appears to reflect her own, suggesting it is under her control. And in today’s comic, notice that David is obviously looking directly at the screen, while Juno’s eye is looking off to the left instead.
Oh and Wolfen as part of my larger comment as the eye seems to be of the Gigan family of mythological things…
Yes; if you were to go into her room and turn n the light the eye would immediately awaken the host as it is
A) perpetually open
B) it is there as an “Early Warning System” against threats. Which you suddenly turning on the lights would be immediately classified as.
Actually if you pay close attention to the eye and the angles of their heads you will notice that the eye is looking to the left AND up… at the TV. The camera angle changed from looking at the tv and behind the two humans to looking away from the tv and in front of the humans.
This is why the eye demon has to be male or at least a gay female demon.
and (Although AflacMan has already more or less said it in his big comment above) i figured that in the strips were The Eye appeared to show her emotion, if it can see what she sees, think what she thinks and feel what she feels it probably would reflect her own emotions.
Well, looks like you win OhHaiMe… The third eye is indeed perpetually open. Though this begs many questions… How does she keep dust and dirt out of it? If I turn on the light in her room while she’s sleeping, will it wake her up? Can it shed tears? Does it get eye boogers?? Intriguing….
Um… honestly how about it’s just drawn there like the actual “3rd eye” in some eastern religions. It can just moveis all. It doesn’t have to be a literal third eye.
I suppose maybe I am being a bit over-analytical here, but to be honest I kinda like his nictitating membrane theory. It would be a bit creepy looking, I’ll admit, but no less creepy than a perpetual, unblinking stare.

Hey Doc, My arm hurts when I do this.
Well stop doing that!
Yeah, Bob is watching “Caballo Negro” on TV
Ah man, beat me to it xD Though I think since it’s Caballo Negro it should already be censored to be safe for work even before the naked ladies were.

P.S. I happened to come across this article on quantum laundry, (yes, you read that correctly) and it was just too perfect to not pass along: http://www.laundry-alternative.com/fateofmissingsocks.htm
I would think the third eye has some kind of magical force-field that protects it,or maybe some-kind of clear/invisible eyelid.
