Sometimes I think I should give David a break. Then, I do stuff like this.
Anyhow, Atomic Laundromat got reviewed in the Comic Buyer’s Guide in their February issue (#1662)! CBG is the world’s longest running magazine about comics since 1971 - and they recently started a monthly section reviewing webcomics.
It was a really flattering article – in hindsight, I only wish that I had created better art by the time the article was written. I was reviewed along Brock Heasley’s Superfogeys and Alan Evans’ Rival Angels, which I recommend you check out as well. An excerpt from the article (regarding Atomic Laundromat of course)
The premise of a laundromat catering to superpowered people naturally provides the opportunity for a host of heroes and villains to drop by. One of the appealing aspects of the series is the opportunity to meet such characters as Captain Amish, Discozilla, and The Mighty Cowman (who has an udder). There’s opportunity for all kinds of mishaps, as well, such as putting too much starch in a hero’s cape and experiencing accidental shrinkage. The comic also expands beyond the walls of the laundromat to such locales as The Lair of Evil Diner, where a former evil psychic overlord telekinetically prepares the food. Just don’t ask him for a veggie burger.
Valenzuela takes full advantage of his creative premise and has created a fun world with likable characters and cheeky humor. I just hope we eventually find out whether Batman wears boxers or briefs. (I would like to know, at least.) The comic started in July and updates Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

I’m really happy about this bit of recognition to the comic. I’m high-fiving my 15-year-old self through the space-time continuum. Now, if I could only convince him to leave DragonBall and Starcraft alone for a bit….

Congratulations on the review, man!
Hey, only girl ducks lay eggs. Is there something we don’t know about David?
Wee-hah! Many congratulations, it’s a well deserved review!
Congrats! You deserve it. And I think the art on today’s strip is great! Keep up the great work.
If he lays an egg, I wonder what would come out if it hatched.
Grants on the review.
Disturbing. But an answer will be provided.
Review buddies FTW!
Congrats.
Okay, anyone think this episode will convince Angela to dump some of that stuff she has around her home? No, me neither.
And… one week to Valentine’s. We’ve been very good…..
It’ll probably just give her a reason to cross “radioactive duck bite” off her list of things to try to use to induce super powers.
Congrats Armando! I just noticed that it has been 6 months since you started publishing! It is a very nice milestone! What would happen on Comic #100? or for the anniversary strip?
I’m thinking probably a double or triple sized strip for 100 – I don’t want to break the format too much, since I’m starting to put the print version together
. I’ll probably hold the big celebration off until the 1-year mark, to put up guestcomics. I might also do guestcomic week while I’m in Japan.
