Al Capp drew a comic in the (1940s? through 1970s) called &quot;Li&#039;l Abner&quot;, about a group of rustics named Li&#039;l Abner, Daisy Mae, etc.  Some of them were named Yoakum.

His drawing style was similar to your farmer character.  Look up the strip for its recurring &quot;Schmoo&quot; characters, which would fit right into the Atomic Laundromat</description>
